Our French Memories
The house in Amboise, France where Leonardo da Vinci spent the last three years of his life as a friend to King Francois I who lived in the castle just up the hill about a ten minute walk.

Leonardo Da Vinci is buried here in this chapel within the walls of the Castle Amboise.
The chapel is small and quiet with beautiful stained glass.
A great place of solitude for a writer!

Looking out Leonardo's bedroom window at his Italian gardens.
We had lunch at the garden cafe; ham, eggs, cheese and mushroom crepes.

Voila! The Chateaux Amboise.
It sits above a wide river and overlooks a charming village of shops and homes on cobbled streets.

Our fabulous tour director, Stephen, and our bus driver, Marjorie.
They were the best!

The Castle Chenanceau built over the Cher River in the Loire Valley - Valley of the Kings!

Near Bordeaux at a privately owned family winery since 1836.
Our host was great fun and even showed us his home movies of the wine-making process.
This valley of grape vineyards went on for miles and miles of rolling green hills.
Small chateaus everywhere.

Joan of Arc is buried under the cross in the city of Roen and the modern cathedral was built to honor her.

Omaha Beach at Normandy.

Top of the cliffs where the German shelters were bombed.
The craters dotting the meadow is evidence of the exploding bombs.

The memorial cemetary where thousands of soldiers are buried.
It is a very beautiful and peaceful spot overlooking the ocean.

Me and my cute hubby at a waterfall overlooking the city of Nice and the Mediterranean.

My two guys playing with the cannons near the palace in Monaco.

The whole school gang sur la ponte d'Avignon!

Windblown on top of the Eiffel Tower overlooking the Seine River.

In the gardens behind the Notre Dame Cathedral - wow!

A funky fountain in Paris near the Museum of Modern Art.
A boy passing by took our picture.
This fountain was something we especially wanted to see since we'd seen it several times on some French videos.

A 2,000 year old Roman aqueduct, Pont du Gar.

Walking behind Pont du Gar. Amazing feat of engineering.

Some of our group jumping off the rocks into the river below the aqueduct.
What can I say? It was a hot day.
The rest of us nearly fell off the aqueduct from above as we looked over the edge to watch them jump.

My son, Adam, looking like a knight (minus the armor) on a circular stone staircase in one of the many walled fortress cities we visited around France.

Adam inside the Medieval fortress city of Carcassone.
Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves, was filmed here!
(Notice the Super Heroes on the T-shirt)

Our favorite stop of the day - a patisserie shop!
Melt in your mouth heaven . . .

Sunset overlooking a lake in the countryside from the patio of our hotel room.
Ah, tres jolie!
We can't wait to return someday.
